Friday 3 September, 2021

Dear members and guests,

The global coronavirus pandemic is affecting all our families, our businesses, our communities, and our way of life. During this time, I wanted to reach out and update you on how we’re approaching the situation at the Hellenic Club.

First and foremost, our hearts go out to anyone who has been impacted by the virus, either directly or indirectly. Our thoughts are especially with those who are sick, to whom we extend our heartfelt wishes for a full recovery. And we are truly inspired by the healthcare workers in our community who are on the front line caring for people in need.

At the Hellenic Club, we are focused on the health and safety of our employees, families, and communities. Our 200 strong work force are eager to get back to the Club and welcome you through the doors. We are regularly checking-in with our team via phone calls, zoom sessions, online training and offering complimentary meals for staff in need. The Club is operating with an essential core team to ensure the three family-owned restaurants can trade in a takeaway capacity. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the team for their ongoing efforts to serve the community in this difficult time.

As we deal with this pandemic, our management team remains focused on preparing for a smooth reopening when restrictions are lifted. The resilience of the Hellenic management team is truly inspiring which makes me extremely proud.

Our 60,000 members are dearly missed. We have been working tirelessly to bring some great initiatives to you during lockdown including:

  • Free Greek Language for beginners zoom – Monday 13 September via zoom.

  • Virtual tour of our Greek artefacts.

  • Virtual Trivia Tuesdays with prizes.

  • Members badge draw.

  • Father’s Day specials and competition.

  • Welfare phone calls to our vulnerable members.

  • Regular engagement on our social media platforms.

For those that may be struggling or need someone to talk to please reach out to our essential team on site (02) 6281 0899.

I look forwards to seeing you all back at the Club. Stay safe and stay positive.

Thursday 14 May, 2020

Dear members and guests,

The ACT government recently released a series of changes to the COVID-19 restrictions around seated dining. We have subsequently been advised that the 10 person limit applies to the entire venue, not each restaurant within the venue.

Our three family owned and operated businesses have all agreed that they are going to ride this out together and reopen when we can bring you the entire Hellenic Club experience and offerings.

Our ever so popular drive through will remain open and continue to support the three restaurants.

The Hellenic Club team are working hard in the background so that when we are given the green light to trade we are able to bring you the best and safest experience

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Stay safe and we miss you.

Kind regards,
Ian Cameron
CEO Hellenic Club of Canberra

Monday 23 March, 2020

Dear members and guests,

I am writing to advise you that the Hellenic Club is required to temporarily shut-down due to Federal Government orders as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Unfortunately at this time it is not clear how long we will need to remain closed, but I would like to assure you that we will keep you updated with any further developments as this situation continues to evolve.

We would also like to advise that Ginseng Chinese and Fillos Taverna + Bar restaurant’s will continue to remain open for takeaway orders only. Please visit our Facebook page or here on our website for information on their take-away menus and how to place an order for pick up or delivery where available. I encourage you to support these family businesses.

We understand this is an extremely difficult time for many people in the community, and we thank you for your understanding and support over the years. We will also be doing our best to support all our staff, contractors and suppliers during this time.

We urge members and guests to keep an eye on our website and social media pages where we will announce any further updates and our reopening when the time comes.

Take care and we hope to see you again soon.

Wednesday 18 March, 2020

The Hellenic Club of Canberra remains open for business and we continue to welcome members to our venues.

We are monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation closely and our priority is to firstly, provide a safe environment for our staff and members and secondly, to continue to operate as normally as possible to ensure the ongoing employment and welfare of all of our staff, contractors and suppliers.

The most recent advice from the government and health officials requires that indoor gatherings should be restricted to less than 100 people.

Therefore, the Hellenic Club has implemented the following measures:

  • Each of our restaurants and bistro has reduced its seating capacity to 100 people and is set to achieve recommended social distancing.

  • Cutlery has been removed from tables and will be set upon arrival.

  • The seating capacity in our Triton Lounge has been limited to 100 people and is set to achieve recommended social distancing.

  • Live entertainment in the Triton Lounge has been postponed until further notice. Housie sessions will continue as usual with a maximum capacity of 100 people each session and will be set to achieve recommended social distancing.

  • Functions of over 100 people have been postponed until further notice.

  • A maximum of 100 poker machines will be in operation at any given time with recommended social distancing measures in place.

We will continue to be vigilant and ensure our staff are supported with clear health and hygiene protocols, as well as the information to support any staff member that needs to stay at home if they are unwell for any reason.

Additional hygiene protocols implemented at the Hellenic Club include:

  • The placement of hand sanitisers and sanitary hand wipes throughout the Club.

  • Hourly cleaning schedules of high traffic areas such as handrails, tables, benches, gaming machines, door handles and furniture.

  • Dining tables disinfected after each sitting. Increased frequency of our already vigilant cleaning regime, sanitisation in our Clubs and additional measures to keep your Club as safe and clean as possible.

  • Staff awareness of the latest advice from the Department of Health.

We are actively following all health and travel advice issued by the Australian Government.

We encourage any member who is not feeling well to seek professional advice before entering the community and our venues. We also ask that members act sensibly and with common sense when at the Hellenic Club.

We remain committed to supporting all staff, members and guests during this time.

Thank you to all our loyal members for your continued support, we will do everything we can to get through this together. For further updates please check back on this page or keep an eye on our social media platforms and website.
